This picture-in-picture player mode is only available to a small section of the user for now. According to the 9to5Google team, the feature is only available to one account and it is working on the Google Chrome and Safari for Mac and the Chrome OS. Once you login to your account on YouTube, you can start a video and navigate around the page to start the video in a floating pop up window. You can now even navigate to the YouTube website without having to close the video, it will be playing in the pop-up window in the bottom left corner of the browser screen. The Pop-up video window also has some controls like play/pause the video, replay the video or skip to the next clip. The name of the video is also visible underneath the video and the user can view the full playlist by tapping the icon in the bottom right corner. It is still unknown that the feature is default like the floating video on the YouTube app or user can turn it off from the settings. The performance of the feature is quite smooth and if the testing is successful, Google might release the feature soon for all users.
