Xiaomi has teased the launch of Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite set for July 24 in Spain. We have seen the renders of Mi A2 Lite earlier last week and it was seen with a notch display. So, there are strong chances, the Redmi 6 Pro will be launched as Mi A2 Lite in global markets including India. Apart from the notch display, Xioami Redmi 6 Pro’s highlight features are its AI-powered dual rear cameras, Snapdragon 625, a 4000mAh battery, a dedicated microSD card slot, face unlock, and voice assistant features. We have got the Redmi 6 Pro from China and here are our initial impressions of the device.
Design and Display
Starting with the design first, the latest phone from Xiaomi bears an iPhone X-like notch display, which is first for a budget phone. Apart from the notch on the front, the rest of the design is similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The display panel on Redmi 6 Pro is a 5.84-inch FHD+ (2280×1080 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display with 500 nits brightness and 84% NTSC Color Gamut. It sports a 19:9 aspect ratio display because of a notch on top. The back of the phone looks like the Redmi Note 5 Pro with a vertical dual rear camera and fingerprint sensor below it.
Camera
For optics, it sports a dual rear camera with a 12MP primary Sony IMX486 sensor with LED flash, 1.25um pixel size, PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and a secondary 5MP camera with Samsung S5K5E8 sensor, 1.12um pixel size, and f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera supports portrait mode and clicks good pictures in all lighting conditions while blurring the background.
There is a 5MP front-facing camera. The front camera also clicks good selfie whenever there is ample lighting condition. The colors and details are good as can be seen in the following samples.

Hardware, Storage
The Redmi 6 Pro is powered by a 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU. Memory wise, it comes in two variants- 3GB RAM with 32GB storage or 4GB RAM with 32GB/64GB storage. The storage is expandable up to 256GB via a dedicated slot. The Snapdragon 625 is Xiaomi’s favorite hardware and it keeps on appearing in more and more phones. However, for a budget phone, it is still a good chipset.
Software, Performance
The Redmi 6 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.5 on top and it’s having China ROM. But since it will be launched as Mi A2 Lite in other markets which will be an Android One smartphone. This means, in India, it will come with pure Android Oreo without any bloatware. So, when it comes to India, we will tell you much about its performance.
Battery, Connectivity
For connectivity the phone supports dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. Notably, it supports triple slots, two for SIM cards and one dedicated slot for microSD, which is a good thing for a budget phone. It is powered by a massive 4000mAh battery which offers more than a day’s juice on moderate usage.
Conclusion
Xiaomi sent out invites for its global launch event in Spain on July 24 where it would launch Mi A2 which could be a global version of the Mi 6X. Now, as per the latest report, the Mi A2 Lite would also be launched at the event which is Redmi 6 Pro’s global variant. It will be interesting to see how the lighter version of Mi A2 will be launched with an advanced notch display and Android One Software. The Redmi 6 Pro price in China starts at 999 yuan (Rs. 10,520 approx.), so it is quite possible that in India, the Mi A2 Lite will be priced around the same tag.
