We cannot fight the air pollution in the outdoors but we can protect ourselves with some gears. The air purifier is one such thing that is good for cleaning air indoors. There are many air purifiers available in India. Xiaomi recently launched a new model of its air purifier Mi Air Purifier 2S in the country at an affordable price tag. The new air purifier from Xiaomi is the successor to the Mi Air Purifier 2. The new purifier has no big change compared to the previous model. The Mi Air Purifier 2S is priced aggressively at Rs 8,999 and comes with several smart features. We tested the Mi air purifier 2S during the worst situation and here’s what we have to say about it.
Design
Xiaomi tries to offer maximum efficiency while keeping the design compact. The Mi Air Purifier 2S features a basic tower-structure design and the overall air duct structure is the same as before. The biggest change here is the front circular OLED display and a laser particle sensor at the back.
The OLED display on the front shows the temperature, humidity, PM 2.5 levels and also the mode on which the purifier is set. Also, the particle sensor looks out for particles in the air to adjust the filtration levels. The switch it on, there is a button on top, and it also changes modes between auto, night and turbo with each press. You need to press and hold it to switch the air purifier off.
The minimalistic design looks good and the white color can fit into any kind of decor you have at your home. The tower-type structure has holes on three sides for air intake and a fan on top to throw out purified air. The rear panel comes with a button to remove and change the filter which is an important component in it. Changing the air filter is quite easy and you just need to pull it out and insert a new one.
What’s inside?
Inside, the Mi Air Purifier 2S has a three-layer cylindrical filtration system which comprises a primary filter, an EPA filter, and an activated carbon filter. The primary filter is used for filtering out large particles and floating matter including dust, hair etc. The EPA filter can block smaller particles like pollen while the activated carbon filter absorbs harmful gases including smoke and bad odors. The company recommends changing the filter once every three to six months depending upon usage.
The company claims that Mi Air Purifier’s filters can purify a room in just 10 minutes. It operates at a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 310m³/hr. In our testing, we used the air purifier in an office space with a small room, we found it effective.
