Statista analysed current smartphone models from Apple, Google, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi etc to comprehend the list of smartphones which have the highest radiation levels. The report included smartphones launched as of December 10, 2018. The tests were conducted during calls and the phone placed on the ear. The Mi A1 that was launched in India back in 2017 has topped the list of phones emitting the most radiation. While OnePlus 5T which is also one of the popular smartphones in India is at the second spot. Other smartphones included in this list are Mi MIX 3, Google Pixel 3 XL, OnePlus 5 and more. Xiaomi’s Mi A1 has a SAR value of 1.73 watts per KG. It is followed by OnePlus 5T that has 1.63 w/kg SAR value. The Mi Max 3 is at number three in the list with 1.58 w/kg SAR value. Surprisingly, the OnePlus 6T is at fourth position with 1.55 value. The HTC U12 Life holds the fifth position. It is to be noted that there is no universal value for a safe level of radiation and it differs from country to country. However, as per the German certification for environmental friendliness phones with 0.60 or less SAR value are permitted there. According to a BGR report quoting Xiaomi spokesperson, the conditions and standards for SAR testing and values in Germany are different from India. “All Xiaomi smartphones sold in India comply with the laws for SAR values and are well under the limit. Mi A1 has a SAR value of 1.26 W/kg (head) and 0.17 W/kg (body) in India. Values shared in the said report have been obtained from tests in Germany and thus cannot be compared to SAR values in India. For reference, India has a maximum limit of 1.6 W/kg while in Germany, the limit is 2.0 W/kg,” the spokesperson told BGR. OnePlus has not yet commented on the report.
