Swipe Virtue Unboxing

The Swipe Virtue comes in a black rectangular box, and unlike other smartphone boxes, this box has a picture of their brand ambassador, Priyanka Chopra on the top and a picture of the smartphone itself just below it.

At the back of the box, you’ll find the basic information about the phone including its specifications. On the sides, you’ll just find some Swipe Virtue features along with the price and import date etc on one side.

When you open the box, you find the phone sitting on the top of a divider for the accessories area. After lifting the smartphone, you’ll find the accessories that are bundled with this smartphone.

Swipe Virtue Box Contents

When you get inside the box, you’ll find that the box contains a USB Wall Charger, a microUSB cable for charging and data sync, a pair of black earphones and a transparent silicon back cover for the phone.

The inclusion of a back cover for the phone is a good move that a lot of smartphone companies are doing these days. It shows that they want the customers to protect their smartphone from damage.

Physical Overview

The Swipe Virtue features a plastic build all over, something that you’ll expect from a phone of this price range. On the front of the device, you’ll find the 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. Above the screen, you’ll find the earpiece, sensors and a 5-megapixel camera for taking selfies. Below the screen you’ll find the touch capacitive buttons that are not backlit, but just get the job done.

On the back of the device, you’ll find a plastic cover that can be removed. On the top of the back, you’ll find the camera along with an LED flash. Other than that, you’ll find the Swipe and Virtue branding. At the bottom, you’ll find the single speaker of this smartphone.

On the right side, you’ll find the power button along with the volume rockers. The volume rockers are placed on the top and the power button is placed just below it.

On the top of the phone, you’ll find the I/O ports for the device. You’ll find the 3.5mm headphone jack on the extreme left and just next to that, you’ll find the microUSB port for charging and data sync.

The bottom and the left edge of the phone is completely empty. The bottom of the phone houses the microphone that will be used during calls and for recording videos on the phone.

User Interface

The Swipe Virtue is running Android Lollipop 5.1 based custom OS from Swipe. This custom OS is a mixture of the Samsung’s older TouchWiz and Stock Android. When you load the settings app, you see a stock Android like experience, but launching the app drawer, it gives you a Samsung TouchWiz feeling. The icons on the smartphone also feature a rounded-square style, where the 3rd party apps are added with a transparent square icon at the back.

Gaming Performance

The Swipe Virtue is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. On the storage side of things, the phone comes with 16GB of onboard storage, that can be expanded via a microSD card if needed. The display on the phone is a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and on paper it should be able to handle light gaming. For testing the gaming performance of this phone, I played X and X on this phone, and recorded my results as follows. [table id=386 /] The battery drop and temperature rise for the phone is something just as I had expected, with it heating a little more than expected.

Swipe Virtue Performance and Benchmark Scores

Since the phone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor with 2GB of RAM, I did not expect it to show any blazing results when testing it with various benchmarking applications in Android. For this section, I ran the Antutu benchmark, Geekbench 3, Nenamark2 and Quadrant Standard. Here is a table showcasing all the scores obtained by this phone. [table id=385 /]

Remember, benchmarks never tell the whole story, but they can just be used to compare the phones on paper. Actual performance of the phone will be evident when we test it out in day to day usage.

Verdict

The Swipe Virtue is a smartphone that is priced at INR 5,999 and hence I can’t say much about this phone at this price point. There are a lot of phones priced in this price range and personally I feel there are more worthy competitors out there, but these are just my initial thoughts. Let’s wait for me to use the device for a longer period of time before saying anything.
