Since the advent of 2014, the tech world has witnessed a plethora of launches and innovations in the smartphone arena. While flagship models announced by Samsung and HTC have already been released in several markets, Sony’s Xperia Z2 is yet to be released, though it was unwrapped during the MWC 2014 tech show. But, there were reports making rounds lately suggesting that the flagship model will be launched in India on May 8. Now, the listing of the handset on an online retailer adds credibility to this report. Well, the Xperia Z2 has been listed with ‘Coming Soon’ on TheMobileStore that also reveals that the phone will come bundled with a free cover and health band. Now, let us go through the quick review of the handset that is pegged to be launched tomorrow.
Camera and Internal Storage
The camera of the Xperia Z2 stands at 20.7 MP and it is an Exmor RS mobile sensor with 4K video recording capability, support for Burst mode, HDR shooting mode, 8x digital zoom, FHD video recording and sweep panorama. Also, this rear camera comes with the attractive background defocus feature that enables users to focus the subject and blur the background. In addition to this, there is a 2.2 MP front-facing snapper on board that also supports 1080p video recording. With these capabilities, the Sony flagship model is definitely one of the best camera centric phones available in the market right now. The native storage capacity is 16 GB and those who find this insufficient can anytime expand it up to a whopping 128 GB with the help of a micro SD card. Though such a huge amount of storage will not be needed by most users, it is a welcome addition on smartphones.
Processor and Battery
The Xperia Z2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC that has a quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz paired with Adreno 330 GPU and a 3 GB of RAM. This combination of the powerful chipset with a large chunk of RAM is capable of delivering about 75% faster processing power than the standard chipsets running multiple apps simultaneously. Battery capacity is 3,200 mAh and it is supplemented with the Battery STAMINA mode that saves a lot of power by deactivating the power hungry apps running in the background. The handset is rated to last for up to 19 hours of talk time and 740 hours of standby time on 3G networks.
Display and Features
Sony has given a 5.2 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen display on the Xperia Z2 and this panel packs FHD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels that translates to 424 ppi pixel density. It delivers excellent viewing angles, clarity and crisp content as it is a Triluminos X-Reality panel. Like the other flagship model, the Xperia Z2 is fueled by Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. Also, the phone comes with the IP55/IP58 rating that makes it waterproof and dust resistant.
Comparison
This high-end phone will definitely find a tough fight with other flagship models such as Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Nokia Lumia 1520.

The handset also comes with impressive features such as a water proof and dust resistant build, but it misses out on a fingerprint scanner that is one of the features that gained the manufacturer’s attention these days.
