Sony Xperia XZ Physical Overview

The Sony Xperia XZ comes with an improved design, doing away with Sony’s traditional approach of design evolution. The Xperia XZ still retains Sony’s rectangular design with sharp corners, but it comes with a new “Loop surface”, allowing the front and the back of the phone to blend smoothly with curves on the sides. The Xperia XZ feels really good to hold in hands thanks to the materials Sony has used for the phone. On the front, you will find the display covered with Gorilla Glass. On the sides (the frame), you’ll find polycarbonate making it nicer to grip. On the back, Sony has used ALKALEIDO alloy, a kind of aluminium alloy. This allows the phone to look premium as well as lightweight, compared to other metal phones. On the front of the device, we have the secondary camera, ear piece and the proximity sensor.

At the bottom, we have a USB Type-C port and the primary mic.

The top panel has the secondary mic and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the right side, you will find the volume rocker, camera button and the power button, which also acts as a fingerprint sensor. The device comes with dual SIM support. It supports nano+nano SIM and the second SIM slot can be used for microSD card.

On the back, we have the 23 MP primary camera with Sony IMX300 sensor. Below that, there is a dual tone dual LED flash.

Display Overview

The Sony Xperia XZ comes with a 5.2 inch full HD IPS LCD display, giving you a pixel density of ~424 PPI. The display comes with Triluminous and X-Reality engine, giving you a much better picture quality and experience than other phones with full HD displays. In our quick hands on with the phone, we found the Xperia XZ to be quite good in terms of colour reproduction, and viewing angles with the sunlight visibility being adequate as well.

Conclusion

The Sony Xperia XZ comes with almost every flagship spec that you can ask for, maybe except for the display resolution. It comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box with the latest version of Sony’s custom skin on top. Sony’s lightweight skin comes with just the right amount of extra features while retaining most of the design philosophies of stock Android, making it one of the better skins out there. Specs like Snapdragon 820 processor, 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, in addition to dual SIM, 4G VoLTE support, microSD card support and IP68 certification for water resistance up to 1.5m make the Xperia XZ a really good phone. The price may be a little high at Rs. 51,990, though.
