Strength of Gorilla Glass
Both Are Stronger, But Which One is Better ?
So, here in this article, I’ll try to answer this question and give you some reasons supporting my answer.
Gorilla Glass is a hardened glass, made by Corning, a well-known company for their products in glassware. The Gorilla Glass was launched a few years ago, and has undergone a lot of iterations. The latest version of the Gorilla Glass is called the Gorilla Glass 4 and is claimed to be one of the strongest glass out there. The Concore Glass is also made by Corning and offers a similar resistance to stress and scratches. It is also pretty much the same in the hardness. Now, the only difference between the two comes down to only their application primarily. The Concore Glass is an OGS Laminated Display from Corning. OGS stands for One Glass Solution and provides the display and the protection layer as a single unit itself and thus reduces the thickness of the device significantly.
Which one is Stronger & Why?
The strength of both the glasses, the Gorilla Glass and the Concore Glass are very much comparable. They both offer the same level of hardness, which provides them their strength and they both offer a similar resistance to scratches which means that they both are favorable to be used by the consumer. But as always, there is a slight disadvantage is using both these types of protection glasses.
What’s Wrong With Gorilla Glass ?
The disadvantage of using a Gorilla Glass is that it is placed on top of the display module, which means that it will increase the thickness of the device eventually, by just even a few millimeters. Other than this disadvantage, there is no other disadvantage of using a Gorilla Glass.
What’s Wrong With Concore Glass?
There are two disadvantages associated with using a Concore Glass on a smartphone. Firstly, since the glass itself constitutes the display module, the cost of production is higher, and which will increase the end cost of the smartphone in most cases. The other disadvantage of using a Concore Glass is that if you drop the phone and break the display, just the display glass (protection glass) will not be replaced, but the entire display panel along with the laminated protection glass will be replaced.
Conclusion
The Gorilla Glass and the Concore Glass offer similar types of protection to the users, with almost comparable strengths. There are certain disadvantages of both, but the disadvantage of using a Gorilla Glass is still bearable in my opinion. The high initial cost and the cost of replacement in the case of a Concore Glass is going to pinch more than a few millimeters thickness of the Gorilla Glass.
