Camera and Internal Storage
This phone has a back camera of 2 MP which is one MP less than Samsung Galaxy Trend and interestingly this slight difference is what distinguished both these smartphones. In the Same range many lower brand name phones like Spice Stellar Glamour Mi- 436 and XOLO A500S will provide you with a better 5 MP camera. No front camera is available in this device, which won’t be a deal breaker as it is rarely used. The internal storage capacity of this device is standard 4 GB which we see in almost all Android budget phones. It is not clear as of now regarding how much storage will be available at the users end after housing the operating system and preinstalled apps. The storage is expandable using a microSD card.
Processor and Battery
This phone operates on 1 GHz Single core processor based on ARM Cortex A5 architecture. This is a little disappointing as Cortex A5 is quite old tech now and at this price range you can easily get a dual core processor from devices like Micromax Canvas A63 and many more. The RAM capacity is 512 MB which is what we see in all phones in this price bracket. Overall this processor will be sufficient for basic operations but will lag if with excess usage and multitasking. The battery capacity is again pretty standard at 1500 mAh which is expected to give above average performance and a talk time of around 7 to 8 hours on 2G.
Display and Features
The display is 4 inches in size and bears WVGA 480 X 800 pixel resolution similar to what we have seen in phones like Micromax Canvas A63 and XOLO A500S which lie in the same price range. The display will give you pixel density of 233 ppi which is fine clarity considering the intended usage. At this price range this is the best out there. This phone comes with Dual SIM functionality and Smart Dual SIM feature which allows you to take calls on another SIM when you are already taking call on one SIM. This feature can be very useful and something which has been missing in all High end MediaTek smartphones. This phone also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly bean operating system which is better than what Samsung Galaxy Trend (8,490 INR) is offering .
Looks and Connectivity
This phone has plastic body and comes with the signature Samsung Galaxy series looks and design. It is significantly thick at 10.6 mm and weighs a moderate 120 grams, Connectivity features lack 3G which will be a deal breaker for many. Other connectivity features include 2G (EDGE), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth v 3.0
Comparison
This phone will compete against Domestic manufactures like Micromax Canvas Fun A63, XOLO A500S, Spice Stellar Glamour Mi 436 and Samsung Galaxy Trend. These budget android devices feature more or less the same hardware specifications but the dual core processor in lower brand value devices will give better performance.
Key Specifications
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy Star Pro will be a better choice than Samsung Galaxy Trend because it supports better Android version and the 1 MP difference in the camera won’t be as noticeable. The biggest USP of this device over other phones in the trusted name of Samsung which provides better after sales support than the competition and also the Smart Dual SIM feature is a much appreciated functionality
