A Weibo user has posted a screenshot, allegedly taken on a prototype S9, showing the fingerprint sensor. The screenshot positions the sensor below the camera module which may seem to be a more practical approach. However, the feasibility is still questionable.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Fingerprint sensor
While we loved everything about the Samsung Galaxy S8, the fingerprint sensor of the phone was awfully placed. Being placed high up next to the camera lens, the sensor was hard to reach and left smudges on the camera. Learning from the Galaxy S8, Samsung may have found a new place for the fingerprint reader in their next flagship. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to sport a fingerprint sensor below the camera module. The input comes from a screenshot posted by a Weibo user. The screenshot is claimed to be from the S Health app from a Samsung Galaxy S9 prototype. It shows a demonstration of heart rate sensor which is integrated into the fingerprint reader. In the demo image, the placement of the fingerprint sensor is shown below the camera. Since these are leaks, the authenticity is questionable, but we’ve had authentic leaks from Weibo in the past too. Also, if the app shows a fingerprint sensor in the demo, it must be there because a working model with the same principles exists.
Samsung Galaxy S9 rumoured specifications
Expected to come with the same infinity display as the Galaxy S8, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is to be Samsung’s next year flagship. The device is tipped to be powered by an Exynos 9810 processor globally and Snapdragon 845 processor in the USA. We may see 6GB RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
