Display and Processor

Other than the side display part, both the smartphones are similar with a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED panel with Quad HD screen resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The display translates to a pixel density of 577 pixels per inch that is impressive. The major difference between the two devices is in the screen. The S6 is a usual touch screen device, the Galaxy Note Edge display curves on both the sides. These side edges will content such as time, frequently used app icons and notification buttons when an app is in the landscape mode.

Otherwise, the Galaxy S6 makes use of an octa core Exynos 7420 chipset with 64 bit processor. It is based on the latest 14 nm process that makes it more powerful. This processor is touted to render superior performance. Also, there is 3 GB of RAM to render excellent multi-tasking performance.

Camera and Internal Storage

Both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are given a 16 MP main camera advanced camera system with OIS, IR white balance, F1.9 lens, fast tracking auto focus and other features. There is also a 5 MP front facer on these smartphones. It is claimed by Samsung that the smartphones have better low light performance than the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Storage wise, the Galaxy S6 and its curved display variant come in three options – 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. Sadly, the default storage space cannot be further expanded as there is no micro SD card slot onboard.

Battery and Features

Apart from the screen, the battery makes a small difference between the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Well, the former uses a 2,550 mAh battery, whereas the curved device uses a slightly larger 2,600 mAh battery. It is claimed that these batteries arrive with rapid charging and Ultra Power Saving Mode features, but they are non-removable.

Both the devices run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the new TouchWiz UI that make them free from bloatware apart from new features. Connectivity aspects include Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G. Also, there is a fingerprint scanner on the home button that will act as a dedicated camera shutter key as well. The side displays on the Galaxy S6 Edge can be set to display a specific color on receiving a call from a specified contact to let users know who is calling them without lifting the device.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are worthy smartphones that can be purchased by spending a little more as they arrive with premium features. Especially the curved display phone is gorgeous to look at with dual side displays. The latter gets a unique look that is completely different. Also, the handsets pack in decent aspects that make it a premium device in its category. The devices sacrifice on the most looked after features such as expandable storage and removable batteries. We need to wait for Samsung to release these smartphones and their pricing for them to stay successful.
