Camera and Internal Storage

The rear camera resolution is 8 MP, while at the front a 5 MP shooter is present for basic video calling. With phones like Honor 6 lurking in the same price range, this doesn’t sound very impressive, but is likely to be considered an acceptable tradeoff for Samsung branding by multitude. LED flash is also there for low light photography and you can record full HD videos Internal storage is moderate 8 GB with option for 64 GB MicroSD expansion. We would have loved atleast 16 GB onboard at this price point, but again, internal storage isn’t particularly disappointing.

Processor and Battery

Processor used is 1.2 GHz quad core SoC which supports 1080p full HD playback and recording at 30fps. It has been coupled with 1.5 GB RAM for smooth multitasking. Looks like Samsung is using a Galaxy Grand 2 like SoC for Mega 2. Battery capacity is 2800 mAh, which is more of a necessity, because of the large display size. Samsung hasn’t provided battery stats yet, but the battery can be expected to last one day moderate usage. A battery saver mode is also present to assist in critical times.

Display and Other Features

The 5.9 Inch Display is not an IPS Panel. It’s a conventional TFT LCD screen with 720p HD resolution amounting to 245 pixels per inches. Judging by the ppi count, you won’t be seeing much pixelation, but the display will be on the softer side of the spectrum. The highlight remains its sheer size. Software is Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI and other features like Group Play(D/L), Story Album(D/L), S Health 3.0 (D/L), S Voice, S Browser, Screen Mirroring, Multi Screen, Private Mode and Quick connect.

Comparison

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will compete with phablets like Asus Zenfone 6, Sony Xperia C3, Huawei Honor 6, Xperia T2 Ultra and Desire 820q selling in the same price range.

Conclusion

Galaxy Mega 2 Prioritizes large display over everything else, just like Samsung’s Mega series smartphones are meant to. With a large 6 Inch display and Samsung branding, Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 should definitely attract lots of attention in markets like India.Samsung has also loaded software features to take advantage of large display size. However, the hardware inside isn’t very inspiring. We expect the price to fall in next few weeks, but for now you can buy Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 at 20,900 INR in Black and White color variants.
