Camera and Internal Storage
Samsung Galaxy J1 features a 5 MP rear AF camera with LED flash and a 2 MP front camera for selfies. You can record 720p HD videos from the rear camera at 30fps. Imaging hardware in budget android devices has significantly evolved in past few months. Phones like Asus Zenfone 5, Redmi 1S and Lenovo A6000 have some great 8 MP cameras in the same price bracket. Internal storage is 4 GB, which is again not particularly impressive. If you plan on using some basic social networking apps this shouldn’t be a deal breaker. To store media files, you can make use of ample 128 GB secondary storage via MicroSD card.
Processor and Battery
There is a 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm chipset powering the smartphone. Samsung hasn’t specified any further details yet. Coupled with just 512 MB of RAM, this doesn’t sound like a machine for heavy lifting.

Battery capacity is 1850 mAh. Samsung claims 10 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of 3G internet usage, 12 hours of WiFi internet usage, 9 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback. The battery capacity shouldn’t be a deal breaker for basic users. The battery is also removable and a power saving mode is also present for critical times.
Display and Other Features
The display is 4.3 Inches in size and features WVGA 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It is not an IPS LCD display and there is no protection layer on top either. The display doesn’t sound anything impressive as, say, Moto E display which is the same size.

Conclusion
Samsung Galaxy J1 is not that revolutionary Samsung phone, where Samsung puts in all its muscle and provide alluring specs over Chinese and domestic players. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t be commercially viable – thanks to the valuable Samsung branding. If you are looking for a low cost Samsung branding device, you can consider Galaxy J1 as an option.
