In the leaked image, the device looks just like any traditional feature phone. Only that there are four additional buttons between the display and the keyboard. The dedicated keys are probably the shortcuts to MyJio, JioTV, Jio Cinema, and Jio Music respectively. The keyboard bears the conventional T9 arrangement with a square Home / Menu button.
The Jio feature phone seems to house a 2.0 to 2.4-inch non-touch display. The mobile comes with a LED torchlight with a dedicated quick on / off shortcut. Speaking of the internals, the phones will reportedly be equipped with Spreadtrum chipsets. However, Jio may also collaborate with Qualcomm and MediaTek. Till now, we don’t have any solid info about the operating system of the feature phones. Some sources claim that the mobiles will run on Android OS. However, this is quite unlikely as Android is a very touch dependent operating system and require a much larger screen size. We are very interested to see what Reliance does with the software part. We still don’t have any info about the camera setup and the possibility of any selfie snapper. Hence, we are uncertain about video calling support. Reliance is expected to launch multiple feature phone models starting right from Rs. 999. The phone in the photo is said to cost Rs. 1500, and a Rs. 1299 model is also in the works. All the mobiles will be capable of doing voice calls over LTE (Long Term Evolution). With unlimited free calling packages starting at Rs. 149 per month, these feature phones will likely sell like hot cakes.
