With the same 48MP quad rear camera setup, Realme launched its Realme 5 Pro in India a few days back. The new mid-range phone from Realme also has features like Snapdragon 712 processor and a 4,035mAh battery. The Realme 5 Pro starts at Rs. 13,999 and it is available on Flipkart. So, if you are planning to buy a phone with a 48MP quad-camera, these two are the only options available in India. Let’s check out how they compare to each other.
Redmi Note 8 Vs Realme 5 Pro
Design: Glass back vs Plastic back
The Redmi Note 8 comes with a glass back body with a new wave-like pattern in blue, black and white colors. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and also has P2i nano-coating.
The Realme 5 Pro comes with a plastic body with a 3D glass-like rear panel and a new diamond-cut pattern. It also looks premium. With 8.35mm thickness, Redmi Note 8 is slimmer than Realme 5 Pro that IS8.9MM thick. However, Redmi Note 8’s is heavier (190g) than Realme 5 Pro (184g). It is paired with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. The Realme 5 Pro is powered by a new octa-core Snapdragon 712 processor. The new 10nm chipset is clocked at up to 2.3GHz and has an Adreno 616 GPU to handle graphics. It is paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage.
Cameras: 48MP Quad
In the camera department, Redmi Note 8 sports a quad-camera setup with a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with f/1.79 aperture, EIS, an 8MP 120° ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera for 2cm macro shots. It has a 13MP front camera. The Realme 5 Pro also comes with a quad-camera set up at the back with a 48 MP primary Sony IMX 586 sensor having f/1.7 aperture lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It sports a 16 MP selfie camera.
Software: MIUI Vs ColorOS
Both smartphones run the latest Android 9 Pie with their custom UIs on top. Redmi Note 8 has MIUI 10 and it is soon to get MIUI 11 update with some features. While Realme’s Color OS 6 has its own set of features. Hence, we leave the choice of software and UI on you.

The Redmi Note 8 price in India starts at Rs. 9,999 for the 4GB/64GB version. The 6GB/128GB model of the phone is priced at Rs. 12,999. The Realme 5 Pro price in India starts at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB/64GB version and the 6GB/64GB variant is priced at Rs. 14,999. Lastly, the 8GB/128GB model costs Rs. 16,999.
