Qualcomm claims that the new chipset to bring at least 40% increase in the performance of the device as compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 630. The new SoC comes inbuilt with Kryo 260 CPUs and Adreno 509 GPU, which is a slight upgrade from the Snapdragon 630’s Adreno 508 GPU. Qualcomm Spectra ISP
The 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP is engineered to support capture of up to 24 megapixels with zero shutter lag, and offer smooth zoom, fast autofocus and true-to-life colors for improved image quality.
Kryo 260 CPU
The new Kryo 260 CPU has up to 40% higher performance than Snapdragon 630. It is built on ARM Cortex technology with independent efficiency and power clusters, each designed to optimize for a unique user experience.
Adreno 509 GPU
The latest chipset comes with all new Adreno 509 GPU. It offers better graphics and enhanced gaming performance for lifelike visuals and more efficient rendering of advanced 3D graphics.
Snapdragon X12 LTE modem
The new 636 chipsets are coming with industry-leading connectivity with LTE download speeds up to 600 Mbps. It also integrates 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO technology which is the pre-5G technology.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology
The new chipset supports Quick Charge 4.0 technology. It is 20% faster, and 30% more efficient than the previous generation Quick Charge 3.0. It can charge a device from zero to 50% in just 15 minutes. Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 636 mobile chipset is expected to ship to customers from next month. Moreover, the company also previewed its first 5G smartphone reference design for testing and optimisation of 5G technology. Qualcomm expects its X50 modem will be ready for the upcoming 5G-ready phones, expected to ship in the first half of 2019. Commenting on the announcement, Kedar Kondap, Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies said, “The introduction of the Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform allows OEMs to enjoy a smooth transition from the Snapdragon 660 and 630 Mobile Platforms while supporting the deployment of superior functionality and performance to end users.”
