The company announced this news in a post on their forum. OnePlus began the open beta testing for OxygenOS 5.0 last month. The OTA update is 1.5GB in size and comes with the September Security patch. However, the latest open beta update came with the October patch, so we can expect another update to deliver the security patch to the OnePlus 3 and 3T.
OnePlus 3, 3T Android 8.0 Oreo update
Android 8.0 Oreo is finally coming to all the OnePlus 3 and 3T phones. The company is pushing this update with OxygenOS 5.0 which is the optimized skin that all OnePlus phones use. This update will bring new features from Android in form of System and Launcher updates. The system updates for the OnePlus 3 and 3T include Parallel apps feature that lets you have two copies of the same app with different accounts. Auto-fill, smart text selection, and an updated security patch to September. Other features include Picture-in-Picture mode and a new quick settings design. While these are the system update, the OxygenOS 5.0 update also brings Android launcher features to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. You will get Notification dots and a new app folder design on your OnePlus 3 and 3T. You can now also upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus. The forum post also says that the update will be rolled out to all users with a small number receiving it today itself. So if you have a OnePlus 3 or 3T, you’ll probably get an update to Android 8.0 Oreo in a few days. To check for the update manually, you can go to Settings > System Updates > Check for updates. If you get the update, there will be a notification to install it on your OnePlus 3 or 3T.
