Camera and Internal Storage
The primary camera used is 13 MP f2.25 unit with dual LED flash which can record full HD and 4K videos. In our brief time we found the camera performance to be a major upgrade over its predecessor. Several interesting features like perfect shot have been added where the camera app provides alterative to a bad shot that you have taken on its own. You can also have high resolution (1080p) video chat from the front 2 MP Camera. Internal storage is 16 GB out of which around 10 GB will be available at user end. The storage is the main limiting factor in this device. Most users wouldn’t want to be stuck with 10 GB after spending 32K INR.
Processor and Battery
The processor used is best in business 2.5 GHz Quad core Snapdragon 801 with Adreno 330 GPU and this will be good enough to smoothly handle all demanding tasks at full HD resolution. There is ample 2 GB RAM for efficient multi tasking. Battery capacity is 2300 mAh which doesn’t sound outright impressive in the presence of full HD display, touchless controls, etc. Motorola claims one day battery backup for moderate users. If you manage to buy Moto turbo charger separately, you can charge it rapidly (Quick Charge 2.0) to give 8 hours of battery life in 15 minutes of charging.
Display and Other Features
The display is 5.2 inches in size with full HD 1080p resolution. It’s a very sharp and vibrant displays with wide viewing angles, but not untouched by the drawbacks of AMOLED displays. If you are among those who have deliberately stayed afar from AMOLED displays due to their oversaturated colors or imperfect whites, Moto X won’t bring anything revolutionary to the table either. Motorola has managed to keep the vertical bezels quite small, in spite of the frontal Speaker below the display. The phone runs on latest Android 4.4.4 Kitkat and will be timely updated to the upcoming Android L. Other features include 3G, WiFi 802.11a/g/b/n/ac (dual band), Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS, GLONASS and NFC. Apart from simple plastic back variant, leather and wooden back variants are also available but you will have to pay extra 2,000 INR for those.
Comparison
The new Moto X will compete against the likes of HTC One E8, LG G2 and Oppo Find 7 which offer equally interesting hardware in the same price bracket.
Key Specs
Conclusion
The Moto X 2nd Generation improves upon its predecessor but still have some limitations which prevent it from being the best in its class. We can only wish Motorola had provided with a bigger battery and expandable storage option, which would have made it much more attractive. The beautiful build quality, decent camera, latest Android OS, customization options and powerful chipset still provide ample reasons for you to opt it as your next smartphone.
