Motorola uses its own camera app instead of Google’s. It has a swipe action for switching between pictures, video, and modes. To access the settings, you need to go to the modes on left swipe. There is also a Pro Mode which allows you to adjust the white balance, ISO, exposure, and shutter speed.
Moto G6 Main Camera
The Moto G6 has a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor for depth effects. The rear camera takes great pictures when there is decent lighting. During the favorable light conditions, it will give detailed pictures with decent color reproduction and exposure. While in lowlight conditions, it takes slightly dull pictures but they are also not that bad, thanks to the f/1.8 aperture.
Portrait Mode
The portrait mode enables you to focus on the subject and apply bokeh effects to your photos. With Moto G6 portrait mode, you can blur the background, make part of the image black and white for a color pop effect, or simply cut-out of the foreground. Also, the amount of background blur can be adjusted after you take the photo with a tool called depth editor.

For selfies, the Moto G6 sports a 16MP f/2.2 camera, that sadly lacks autofocus, but has a LED flash for low light conditions. The G6 selfie camera also captures good details and appears to apply selective sharpening around face making skin tones look natural.
There is also auto HDR for the selfie camera which may sometimes overexpose the selfies. There isn’t a wide-angle lens on the front camera, but if you want to click a group selfie there is a Group Selfie feature similar to the panorama mode on most phones.

The Moto G6 comes with a Snapdragon 450 chipset which means it can capture 1080p videos. The 1080p can be recorded at 60fps though, and EIS is also available for the 1080p at 30 fps. Just like the pictures, it also captures the 1080p videos with enough detailing, good contrast level & colors, and narrow dynamic range.
There is also features like the ability to capture slow-motion footage with a basic version and time-lapse recording.
Verdict
The Moto G6 camera might not take the most detailed pictures, however, it can stand against other phones around this price, and even some more expensive ones too. The dual camera captured detailed pictures with vibrant colors and accurate exposure. The camera modes are fun. The front camera is also clicking better selfies in all lighting conditions. Overall, you can click photos good enough for your social media accounts with the Moto G6, and its camera justifies the pricing.
