Design, Form Factor and Display
Micromax Canvas W121 is nicely build and feels nice in hand thanks to the leather finish back cover. The phone is quite Slim with a balanced weight and 3 capacitive touch button lined under the 5 inch display. The edges have a silver finish which makes it look premium. The superior built and material quality over Win W092, also launched today was easily noticeable.
The display is just the right size with 5 Inches diagonal length and is embellished with 1280 x 720p pixels HD resolution. The viewing angles were good and colors seemed fine in our initial hands on with the device. Only thing missing is Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protections on top, but that won’t be a deal breaker at this price range.
Processor and RAM
Windows Phone OS is by nature resource efficient. The Chipset houses 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 200 Quad Core processor most likely based on 45nm process technology. The CPU is assisted by Adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB RAM. Nokia Lumia 630 with Windows Phone 8.1 managed to sail smooth with its 512 MB RAM and the 1 GB RAM on Canvas Win W121 would be sufficient enough for decent performance. In our initial time with the device, UI transitions were very smooth, we expect the same performance in the long run.
Camera and Internal Storage
The rear camera comes with an 8 MP sensor capable of recording 720p HD videos. The camera performance was what you would expect from an 8 MP shooter and was better than Lumia 630 camera. The camera App is almost similar to traditional Windows Phone App.
The Internal storage is 8 GB and you can further extend it by another 32 GB using MicroSD card support. Needless to say, the storage will be sufficient for most users out there. With Windows phone 8.1, you can also transfer apps to MicroSD card.
User Interface and Battery
The battery capacity is 2000 mAh like most high end phones in Canvas series. Micromax didn’t reveal any backup data as of now, but we can expect around 1 day of backup with moderate usage. The good thing is that the battery is removable.
The home-screen greets you with familiar Windows Phone 8.1 tiled interface. The new Windows Interface brings several new enhancements like Action center and universal app support. It’s still not clear if USB OTG functionality will work on upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 or on Canvas Win W121. You can read list of Windows Phone 8.1 features for better insight.

Conclusion
Micromax Canvas Win W121 definitely seems to be the most palatable Windows Phone option in the vicinity of 10,000 INR mark, thanks to the larger HD IPS LCD Display and decent camera. Lumia 630, its main competitor will have the advantage of Microsoft branding and better access into Microsoft Ecosystem, which means faster updates. If you have no qualms about choosing Windows Phone over Android, Canvas Win W121 is a good value for money device.
