Display and Processor

The Micromax Canvas Turbo will offer you a very sharp full HD 1080 p full HD IPS LCD display with support of 16.7 million colors. The 441 ppi display is very sharp and the color saturation is also pretty good. The display didn’t leave anything to complain about. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes with a even larger 5.25 inch display with 720p HD resolution. The display is TFT LCD display and will give you 280 pixels per inches, which is not as sharp as screen in Micromax Canvas Turbo, but won’t be a deal breaker either. Regarding the display resolution and tech, Micromax Canvas Turbo is unquestionably better. The processor employed in Micromax Canvas Turbo is MediaTek 1.5 GHz MT6589 Turbo quad core processor with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU clocked at 357 MHz. This processor will perform very well for most general purpose task and moderate gaming, but the performance was sluggish for high end gaming. The processor is backed by 2 GB of RAM which lets you effectively switch between apps. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 on the other hand packs a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor. Samsung has chosen to remain reticent on the further details of the processor. At the launch event, Samsung mentioned it to be a Qualcomm processor. The RAM capacity assisting the processor is 1.5 GB.

Camera and Processor

The Primary camera is Micromax Canvas Turbo is of 13 MP. Micromax has introduced various software tools in the camera including 360 degree panorama, object removal tool, etc. The camera performance is pretty good in full light conditions but is inconsistent in low light conditions. A Front camera of 5 MP is also present for video calling and self portraits. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 has an 8 MP camera sensor at the back equipped with image stabilization. The front camera is of 2 MP. The camera quality is much more than the megapixel count and we expect the gap to be bridged far beyond the gap in the megapixel count. The Internal storage in Micromax Canvas Turbo is only 16 GB and is not extendable. This will suffice for most general purpose users, but would be a deal breaker for many. The Samsung Galaxy Grand will offer you 8 GB of onboard storage which is extendable to 64 GB using a MicroSD card and this makes it a winner in this segment.

Battery and Other Features

The Battery of Micromax Canvas Turbo is a limitation. The 2000 mAh battery will struggle to last one day with moderate usage. The Samsung Galaxy Grand with its 2600 mAh battery will definitely last longer and you won’t have to scramble for a charger and battery ever so often. Micromax Canvas Turbo runs on Android 4.2 Jelly bean Operating system for now.Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 will come with newer Android 4.3 jelly bean O.S. Reportedly Samsung and Micromax are both working towards providing Android 4.4 KitKat update in these smartphones which will make them more efficient and fancy. Micromax Canvas Turbo will also come loaded with various gesture features for which you can also find third party apps substitute.

Micromax Canvas turbo is a very good smartphone for general purpose usage with beautiful and light weight body design. The battery is a limitation which can be resolved if you are comfortable carrying a battery bank. The Samsung Galaxy Grand will give you the brand advantage of Samsung, better after sales support, along with better battery backup , but it will be more expensive.
