Weight and Dimensions
Canvas 4 dimensions: 144.5 x 73.8 x 8.9 mm, weight: 158g Lenovo P780 dimensions: 143 x 73 x 10 mm, weight: 176g It is clear that the devices share more than just similar specifications, even the dimensions are fairly similar. However, due to the added battery size in the P780, you have to live with additional weight as well as thickness. Your hands might start feeling the pain if you use the device for long hours due to the additional weight and thickness. On the other hand, the Canvas 4 fits the hand very well.
Display and Processor
Both devices come with 5 inch screens sporting 1280 x 720p resolutions. On top of that, the devices feature the same IPS LCD technology. Therefore, there isn’t much to choose from. As far as we’re concerned, a 720p display on a 5 inch screen is just about perfect, striking the right balance between pixel density and overloading the GPU. You will be able to play games without noticeable lag on these devices, whereas full HD devices with the same specs might not be able to save you from the regular stutter. The phones come with exactly the same processor, the MT6589 which is a quad core processor with a PowerVR SGX544 GPU, which again leaves us nothing to choose from.
Camera and Memory
Camera, memory and battery are the segments which differentiate these two devices in a very distinct manner. While the P780 takes the upper hand on the battery segment, there’s no beating the Canvas 4 on camera and memory. The Canvas 4 features a 13MP main camera which is expected to beat the P780’s 8MP main unit in terms of quality. Front facing camera on the Canvas 4 is a hefty 5MP unit, whereas the P780 takes it easy and offers a 1.2MP unit, which again means that the Canvas 4 is the device if you wish to capture decent clicks on your phone. On the storage front, the Canvas 4 registers a comprehensive victory with 16GB of on board ROM (this is what we want to see on domestic devices more often) with a microSD slot for further expansion. On the other hand, Lenovo cuts costs to make way for a larger battery by including just 4GB of on board ROM. Again, the device does come with a microSD slot.
Battery and Features
We’ve made it very clear – the P780 is the undoubted battery king in this battle. As mentioned previously, the phone comes with a humongous 4000mAh unit which promises 2 days of usage on a single charge. On the other hand, the Canvas 4 comes with a rather lacklustre (we’ve refrained ourselves from using the word ‘paltry’) 2000mAh unit which definitely leaves a lot to be desired. The Canvas 4 adds a few gimmicky features such as blow to unlock, shake to unlock, etc. which look good on paper and might lure an optimistic buyer into buying the device.

Conclusion
The Canvas 4 which was launched for 17,999 INR is now available for anywhere between 16,000-17,000 INR. On the other hand, the P780 sells for close to 17,000 INR. If you are a young college student who travels a lot and tends to visit places worth clicking pictures of, you might want to go for the Canvas 4 since the device will provide for a decent camera along with plentiful storage. On the other hand, the P780 is for hard core professionals who do not have the time to charge the device every day and don’t mind giving up on storage and camera features for a bigger battery.
