Camera and Internal Storage

At the back of the Micromax A091 Engage is a 5MP camera coupled with a flash. It won’t win you any awards and won’t click one of the better pictures on the block but will be good enough to help you with those rare clicks. The front of the smartphone has a VGA camera which would suffice just fine for your vanity checks. The internal storage of the Canvas Engage is 4GB and it can be expanded by another 32GB with the help of a microSD card slot. This is pretty much the standard in the budget smartphone segment and it gets that.

Processor and Battery

At the heart of the Canvas Engage is a 1.2 GHz quad core processor which is present in almost every other budget handset. It gets coupled with a 512MB RAM to take charge of the multitasking department. The perform decently well together to give the consumer a good experience on a budget. The battery unit is a 1,500 mAh one. It may seem pretty less to start with but seeing the fact that it has a really moderate screen and other specs to give juice to, it wouldn’t really disappoint you and will help you get through a day on a single charge without a lot of issues. It is claimed to provide talk time of up to 5.5 hours and stand by time of up to 200 hours.

Display and Features

The display unit of the Canvas Engage is a 4 inch one which has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Though it may not be the sharpest one on the block, it looks just fine as the resolution fits the screen pretty well. You’d notice some pixelation here and there but you can’t get more at this price either. The Canvas Engage runs on Android KitKat and that is one of the most striking features of the device. The smartphone is the cheapest one in the entire country to run on the latest version of Android out-of-the box and it will surely be one of the key factors in making it a popular one.

Comparison

The Phone will compete against the likes of  Micromax Unite 2, Moto E,  and Lava Iris X1. All these phones will cost you slightly more but will give you 1 GB RAM. In the same price range, it will compete against phones like iBall Andi 4 IPS Tiger.

Price and Conclusion

The Canvas Engage has gone on sale online for Rs 6,199 and even though its slowly getting crowded in the sub Rs 6,500 segment, the Miromax offering manages to break the clutter with Android KitKat. It has been slotted above the Unite 2 and Moto E so it isn’t competing with them and is more on the lines of a Rs 6,000 device. And at that price, it makes a whole lot of sense.
