LG unveiled another Optimus G series smartphone today, the Optimus G Pro Lite. The phone comes with mediocre specifications but a rather large screen, which make us believe that the company is trying to battle it out against budget manufacturers which have risen in almost every country in the past few years. There’s no word on pricing yet, so we have to reserve our judgements on that for later.

Full specifications of the phone are as follows – 5.5 inch qHD screen (960x540p), 1GHz dual core processor (which is none other than the much loved MT6577), 8MP camera at the rear, 1.3MP front facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM with a microSD slot to expand storage by up to 32GB, and all the usual radio like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. The like the fact that the phone will be powered by a 3140mAh battery. You might be able to get up to 2 full days of battery backup on this device! After all, the MT6577 isn’t as powerful and as power hungry as other chipsets of today’s day and age. Another feature of the device which impresses is the dual SIM functionality. There will be a dedicated button to switch between SIMs. There will be numerous competitors to the G Pro Lite, most coming from the budget segment dominated by domestic and Chinese manufacturers. However, a lot would depend on the pricing of this device. We expect the phone to sell for anywhere between 15-20k INR, while hoping it sells somewhere close to the lower end of the bracket. Phones which might give it a tough competition include Micromax’s Canvas Doodle 2, Gionee GPad G3, etc.
