Physical Overview
The Karbonn Quattro L50HD features a plastic build all over, something that’s expected from a phone of this price range. The design is something I was impressed with, as it comes with a very handy and well designed body which feels good to hold and use with one hand. It feels solid enough to take on few bumps and jerks without any issue. A beautiful metallic rim surrounds the black front panel and the rounded edges make it easy to grip.
On the front of the device, you’ll find the 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. Above the screen, you’ll find the earpiece, sensors and a 5-megapixel camera for taking selfies. Below the screen you’ll find the touch capacitive buttons that are not backlit, but painted in silver.
On the back of the device, you’ll find a matte finished removable plastic cover. On the top of the back, you’ll find the camera along with an LED flash. Other than that, you’ll find the Karbonn branding.
At the bottom, you’ll find the single speaker of this smartphone.
On the right side, you’ll find the power button made with plastic.
The volume rockers are placed on the left side of the phone.
On the top of the phone, you’ll find the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the extreme left and the microUSB port on the right for charging and data sync.

Karbonn Quattro L50 HD User Interface
Karbonn Quattro L50 HD comes with Kandy UI on top of Android v5.1.1 (Lollipop) out of the box. Kandy UI comes with some light customization over the authentic Android experience. It does not feature an app launcher, has various animations and a totally revamped notification panel. It also supports off-screen gestures and offers themes to customize the look and feel. Several apps and games are pre-loaded on the device. The UI did not show any lag until the phone was void of heavy data and apps, but it started taking minute hiccups when we threw multiple tasks at it.
Karbonn Quattro L50 HD Gaming Performance
The Karbonn Quattro L50HD is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6735 processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The GPU on this device is the Mali-T720, which is considered to be decent for gaming. The display on the phone is a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which enhances the gaming experience.
We ran Modern Combat 5 and Dead Trigger 2 on this device, and the phone was performing well with both the games. We did not face any hiccups during extensive gameplay, though there were minor frame drops here than there but its normal. None of the game was playable at high graphics, the medium level of graphics were set by default. [table id=419 /] The surprising part about this handset was the controlled heating; I played the games for almost half an hour each but the phone did not heat up in any of the case.
Karbonn Quattro L50 HD Performance and Benchmark Scores
In terms of performance, the Quattro L50 HD was performing pretty well. MediaTek 6735 does a fair job in handling all the tasks. We were easily able to get through gaming, browsing and watching movies on the HD panel. We cannot promise a breakthrough performance on this device for a longer run, as we tested it for just a couple of days. For further comparisons, you can have a look at the benchmark scores of this phone. [table id=420 /] Remember, benchmarks never tell the whole story, but they can just be used to compare the phones on paper.
Verdict
The Karbonn Quattro L50 HD is a budget device with a fair set of hardware and display. I would not rank it among the best phones in the similar price range, as we have phones like Coolpad Note 3 Lite, Samsung Galaxy J1, Lenovo Vibe P1M and more. Although, Karbonn has done a good job with the design and software optimization to cover up the drawbacks. As far as my opinion is concerned, I would definitely recommend this phone if they make slight cut in the price.
