Camera and Internal Storage

Karbonn Platinum P9 boasts of an 8 MP main camera with auto focus and LED flash like several other smartphones in the similar price bracket. But, the highlight is the inclusion of an 8 MP selfie snapper at the front. The front facer can undoubtedly click gorgeous selfies and make quality video calls. There are hardly a few such selfie focused handsets in the sub Rs 10,000 price range making this one capable of competing with the rest. Internal storage is 16 GB along with the option for 32 GB MicroSD expansion. This should be sufficient for most users. Anyways, we cannot expect more than this from a device with a competitive price tag.

Processor and Battery

The Karbonn smartphone is powered by 1.3 GHz quad core chipset aided by 1 GB RAM. The chipset that is used in this device remains unknown, but we can expect it to render moderate performance without any hiccups to meet the demands of entry level smartphone users.

Battery capacity is 2,500 mAh that seems to be better than the ones present in the competitors. Though the backup that this battery can render remains unknown, we can expect a decent life from it.

Display and Other Features

The Platinum P9 boasts of a large 6 inch qHD display with a resolution of 960×540 pixels. The interesting aspect is that this display is protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection to make it withstand scratches and damage. However, a qHD resolution is too low for a large screen and this could result in pixilation. Being an IPS and laminated display the screen can render good viewing angles and prevent reflections even in bright light conditions. Software running in the Karbonn offering is Android 4.4 KitKat while other features include Dual SIM functionality, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, GPS and 3G.

Comparison

The Karbonn Platinum P9 will be a competitor to the other devices in the similar price range such as Panasonic Eluga S, Micromax Canvas Fire 4, Lava Iris Selfie 50, Micromax Yureka and more.

Price and Conclusion

The Karbonn Platinum P9 smartphone is priced competitively at Rs 8,899 in the lucrative market and it comes with decent aspects for the pricing. The handset is impressive in many segments such as storage, camera and battery. The only place where it feels cheap is the screen resolution, but it should be accepted as the handset is priced affordably and there could be some downsides.
