Huawei Honor 7 India Hands on Review, Features and Camera Test [Video]

Physical Overview

The Honor 7 has a dual tone design, with a white color front and a grey/silver metallic rear surface. Just below the camera module, you will find a 360 degree fingerprint sensor, which works accurately and is right where you index finger naturally rests. Thin bands you see on the top and bottom, with knurling texture, are actually plastic. The camera module is slightly protruding, but there is saphire glass lens cover to avoid scratches. A function hardware button is also present on the side edges, which can be configured to launch any app on the fly. The handset feels a bit heavy for a 5.2 inch display phone, but the weight is evenly distributed. The vibrant display has that wow factor, which we have now come to expect from Honor series flagships. The Honor 7 with its Aluminum uni-body design feels tough and sturdy, though the dual tone design does feel a bit odd to us.

Camera Overview

The rear camera module has 20MP camera with phase detection auto focus and seems to be great performer in low light. The camera has a large 1/2.4 Inch sensor and an extensive pro mode for advanced users. We will have to test it in outdoor conditions with better lighting before we draw any sorts of conclusion about the Honor 7 rear camera. On the front side an 8MP selfie shooter with wide angle lens is also present.

User Interface

Software has never been a strong point of Honor phones, but Huawei is paying heed to user and critic feedback and has improved on various aspects of its Emotion UI. Aesthetics and design of the new Emotion UI, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, look good. Huawei is highlighting the use of screen and fingerprint sensor gestures, which you can use to trigger apps directly from standby. We tried these features and everything seemed to work very smoothly on the hands on prototype

Competition

Based on the expected launch price, the Honor 7 will primarily take on the OnePlus 2, but it will be more expensive, considering the fact that Honor 6 Plus is still selling for 26K+ in India.

Conclusion

Kirin chipsets so far have failed to make a lasting impression on high end gamers, and that isn’t expected to change this time either. For all other categories of users, Huawei Honor 7 should be a great phone, if Huawei manages to keep the price in check.
