Display and Processor
The Galaxy S5 comes with 5.1 inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 432ppi. It gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for added protection. The 2014 HTC One gets a 5 inch screen with a full HD resolution as well with a pixel density of 441ppi. It also gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top for protection. Both the smartphones come shod with a quad core Snapdragon 801 processor but the Galaxy S5 gets it clocked at 2.5 GHz whereas the HTC One gets it clocked at 2.3 GHz. Both of them get a 2GB RAM and you won’t notice any difference in real world performance.
Camera and Internal Storage
Imaging seems to be one of the strongest departments of the HTC One. It gets dual cameras at the rear which is a first in the segment. At the back is a 4.1 UltraPixel camera coupled with a 2MP camera which will be used for refocusing and provide pretty clear images. The Galaxy S5 gets a 16MP camera at the rear. On paper both of them would perform similarly so we’ll have to wait for real world samples to come in before we can comment on the same. The HTC One gets a 5MP camera up front and the Galaxy S5 gets a 2.0 MP camera at the front so the HTC One comes across as a better performer in this category. Both of them will come in 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants which can be expanded further by another 128 GB with the help of a microSD card so there’s a tie in this regard.
Battery and Operating System
The Galaxy S5 gets a 2,800 mAh battery unit wheras the HTC One gets a 2600 mAh battery. Both of these devices have an extreme battery saving mode and will provide with similar performance in real world scenario. Both the devices run on the latest version of Android which is 4.4 KitKat. The HTC One runs on Sense 6.0 UI on top of it whereas Galaxy S5 runs on all new Touch Wiz UI. We personally favour the Sense UI more than Touch Wiz UI but it is totally a matter of personal liking. Both will follow a similar update schedule as they are the flagships coming out at a similar time. HTC has incorporated more software tricks whereas Samsung has kept it simple this time.

Conclusion
The HTC One in its latest guise comes with metal-clad build quality that the Galaxy S5’s plastic build quality is no match for. But it misses out on the IP67 certification and fingerprint scanner of the Galaxy S5. They go head to head in the specs department that they make the choice all the more difficult. None has a price or availability advantage over the other. My vote goes to the HTC One in 2014 guise but you won’t go wrong if you went in for the Galaxy S5 either.
