Google has restricted this app to the US only for now, however that did not stop users from other countries from accessing the Google Arts & Culture app’s latest feature. Using a VPN service will allow you to use the selfie matching feature everywhere, including in India. Here are some simple steps on how to do get that feature using VPN service.

How to use Google Arts & Culture selfie feature

Step 1: Download the Google Arts & Culture from Google Play Store or App Store. Step 2: Download a VPN app such as Opera VPN app available on the Play Store or App Store. Once the VPN app is installed, open it and click on ‘Switch location’ under the Device Location tab and select United States from the list. Step 3: Once the location is changed to the US, open the Google Arts & Culture app. Now, scroll down till a card appears titled “Is your portrait in a museum?” Click on ‘Get Started’ and select ‘I Accept’ and the app will ask for permission to access your front camera. Step 4: Now, align your face in the provided frame, which will prompt the app to click a photo. After that, the database and pattern recognition software will scan your face and look for similar portraits. Once done, it will display the four best-matched options to choose from. According to Google, the Google Arts & Culture app uses pattern recognition to recognize face patterns and understand characteristics of different faces. It looks for properties such as beards, glasses etc to select relevant portraits from its database. The Google Arts & Culture app will also display the percentage of the match for each selfie. It will also reveal the name of the selected portraits along with the name of the museum it belongs to.
