Whatever your reason may be, the option to block a YouTube channel is definitely worth having. Unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t offer an option to block videos from a specific channel. Although you can block comments from a specific channel, but that won’t block their videos. Thankfully, with the help of a Chrome extension, you can block videos from channels or even block videos based on titles. Let’s see how to block YouTube channels.
Block YouTube channels with a Chrome extension
I have personally used many extensions for this purpose, but many break over time as YouTube changes its interface (which is quite often). However, Channel Blocker is one extension that hasn’t broken with any of the changes at least for over a year I am using. It’s really easy to use too, so I’ll recommend it. The basic function of the extension is very simple. The extension adds a small “cross (x)” button next to channel names on YouTube. You can click on this cross button to put the channel on the blacklist and immediately remove all the channel’s videos from your view.
Now whenever you will search for videos from that channel or they get recommended to you, the videos will immediately hide after loading.
Managing options
The extension also has a bunch of options that you can customize to take further control over what you want to block. In the options, you should first enable the “Advanced view” button at the top to access options to block more content. Afterward, click on the drop-down menu below and you’ll see a few more options to block YouTube content. This includes blocking videos by title, blocking comments with specific content, or excluding channels from which you never want to block videos (in case their title gets blacklisted). Select one of the options and add channel name or words to blacklist in the text space on the right side of the menu.
You can remove word strings and channel names from the blacklist by selecting them in the list and then click on the big button with “cross (x)” on it.
If you scroll down a bit, you’ll see a bunch of options to change the design of the extension features. There is an interesting option to change the speed of how fast the extension should hide the content. If you want to track how many videos the extension is hiding, then it might be better to slow the animation down. You can also export or import your blacklist here.
Ending thoughts
Channel Blocker definitely does an amazing job of blocking videos from specific channels. I should also mention that extension will also block comments from the channel on other channels. Therefore, you can also use it to hide the comments of someone who offends you (only from your view). Let us know in the comments if you find this extension useful for blocking YouTube channels.
