With dozens of people and tens of thousands of acres of land and property destroyed, the California fires have been quite devastating. Google has set up a number of alerts and other similar help related functions. The company has also set aside a million dollar fund to help the victims.

SOS Alerts and Fire Information

Google’s SOS Alerts are a set of functions on Google Search and Google Maps which let the users stay connected with what’s happening in the nearby affected regions. It also helps guide the users in what to do during times of a crisis. Following the California Fires alert, the Crisis response team at Google has created a Crisis Map too. This Crisis Map has shelter locations, pet accommodations and more such features which keep updating the users on vacancy status and more. It also shows vacancy in shelters, as well as things that are needed there (which users can donate).

Air Quality Resources

In addition to the SOS alerts and fire information, Google has also introduced Air Quality Resources which update the users on air quality alerts, as well as safety tips for bad air quality. Fires tend to cause severe pollution in the nearby regions and this is a welcome move from the company. This information regarding Air Quality can be seen on the Google Feed itself.

Moreover, Google has set aside a million dollar fund for the relief of those affected by the California Fires. Google has tied up with the following organizations: ed regions. The Redwood Empire Food Bank, the Red Cross, the Napa Valley Community Foundation, the Community Foundation Sonoma County, and the Latino Community Foundation. Google’s Food Team is also working on providing over 25,000 meals to those affected by the fires over the next month.
