Google Nexus 6 India Unboxing, Hands on Review, Camera, Features, Price and Lollipop Overview [Video]

Design, Build and Display

If you are interested in Nexus 6, you must have heard by now that it looks and feels like a bigger Moto X. This is true, and when held in hand this might appear to be an understatement. Nexus 6 is huge and you might want to consider other options if you have small hands.

The design language is same as that of the new Moto X, which is a good thing. Bezels are narrow on all sides (in spite of loud dual frontal speakers), the rear side has an ergonomic curve and the side edges gradually slim on both top and bottom.

The weight is on the heavier side of the spectrum, but we didn’t find Nexus 6 heavy when held in hand. The weight is moderate and well balanced considering the large footprint. At 83 mm width, Nexus 6 is perhaps the widest phone we have come across in a long time. The large form factor and plastic back feels slippery in hand and its recommended that you buy a sturdy case along with the device. The 6 Inch Quad HD 2K Display is sharp enough, even for pickiest of users. It’s a super AMOLED panel, which is comparable in quality to the sharp AMOLED screen on Galaxy Note 4. The dazzling 6 inch display is certainly impressive and we did appreciate Google’s New Material design on this large sized display.

Processor and RAM

Nexus 6 employs the flagship Qualcomm 32 bit processor Snapdragon 805, with ample 3 GB RAM for efficient multi tasking. The 4 Krait 450 cores clocked at 2.7 GHz are upgraded versions of Krait 400 cores in Snapdragon 800/801, but the Adreno 430 GPU is a major improvement and also a requirement to smoothly handle Quad HD resolution. Android 5.0 Lollipop ran very smoothly on Nexus 6 in our initial time with the device.

Camera and Internal Storage

The 13 MP rear camera comes with dual LED flash support, Optical Image Stabilization and can record 4K videos as well. The 13 MP sensor performed very well in our initial testing. Low light shots were also pretty good. In our initial time with the device, we liked the 13 MP rear camera. The 2 MP front camera can record 1080p full HD videos and will suffice for good quality video chat.

Internal storage is 32 GB or 64 GB depending on the variant you choose. Google has repeatedly shunned MicroSD card for Android and Nexus 6 is no exception. The storage should be sufficient for most users.

User Interface and Battery

The software is pure unadulterated Android Lollipop, which is also the most ambitious android version upgrade so far. This includes new Material design, battery saver mode, enhanced security, restored SD card, Notifications and much more. In India, Nexus 6 comes with Version 5.0.1 out of the box, which includes bug fixes for Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Battery capacity is 3220 mAh. The battery is non removable and supports wireless charging. A turbo charger is also included in the box which can rapidly charge Nexus 6 battery. We will comment more on the battery backup after our full review.

Conclusion

If you don’t like extra large display devices, Nexus 6 isn’t for you. If you are open to a hybrid between smartphone and tablets and are willing to pay the premium price, Nexus 6 can offer you the best of Android experience. Based on our initial time with the device, we also feel that this is more than just an enlarged Moto X. You can buy Nexus 6 32 GB and 64 GB from Flipkart for 44,000 INR and 49,000 INR.
