Picture in Picture Mode Navigation on Google Maps
This newly introduced picture in picture mode for navigation on Maps is basically Google preparing the app for Android Oreo. With this gen-next Android OS, picture-in-picture mode is now supported for all apps. This allows the users to use one app in an inset on the screen while they perform other tasks on their phone. Google had allowed the PiP mode for the app during the beta testing of Android Oreo, but it wasn’t really useful. Now that users can use the navigation feature, it makes a lot of sense!
Video Submissions on Google Maps
Local guides can now submit short videos to places to ensure that the users know what kind of experience awaits for them at a destination. Videos are allowed to be shot from within the Maps app and these videos are of a maximum 10 second in length. Videos shot from other apps too will be allowed, up to 30 seconds. This feature is currently enabled only for users registered as local guides. (Also Read: Google Adds SOS Alerts To Maps)
Personal Notes on Google Maps
Another new feature that comes with the v9.60 update of the app introduces ‘personal notes’. It is a basic note-taking feature which allows the users to save notes about places that they visit and it will be visible only to them. It is useful if you want to store gate-codes or other small tidbits of information.
