Relevant Information

The Driving, Navigation, Transit and Explore modes have all been updated to provide the most relevant information at one glance. Basically, Google’s purpose with this is that while you are using public transit, there is some information that might not be as relevant but there are other places which you must see around you. Basically, you will see more petrol pumps while you’re driving and more train stations and bus stands when you’re on transit.

New Color Coding

Google has now introduced a new color coding system which will immediately let  the users know which kind of places are nearby. For example if you’re looking for a place which serves food and drink, you’ll know you’re looking for orange colored places. If you’re looking for a doctor or a hospital, you need to look for a pink color on the map. In the image above, you can see various colors along with what they represent.

New Icons

Google Maps now gets new icons – featuring a dedicated icon for each specific kind of a place you are looking for! This makes it even quicker to identify what kind of a building is in the vicinity without having to zoom in and tap on the place to look for more details.
