COVID Vaccine Price in India

The COVID vaccination drive in India currently has vaccines – Covaxin, developed by India’s Bharat Biotech and Covishield, developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca, and is being manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. Apart from these two, Russia’s Sputnik will also be used soon.

For people above 45 years, both Covishield and Covaxin are available free of cost at government hospitals and at private hospitals, these people can get vaccines for Rs 250. But for people between 18 years and 45 years, the Serum Institute of India has announced the prices for its vaccine.

— SerumInstituteIndia (@SerumInstIndia) April 21, 2021 For those above 18 years, Serum’s vaccine would cost Rs. 400 at state govt hospitals and at Rs. 600 at private hospitals. However, this doesn’t mean that it will be the maximum you will pay and it may also include additional charges (taxes) once the vaccination starts. If we talk about Covaxin, it is currently is free at central government vaccination centers and at Rs 250 at a private hospital for people who are 45 and above. Bharat Biotech hasn’t yet announced the prices of Covaxin for all. Once they do, we will update this article. It is to be noted here, some state governments (like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) have announced to offer free vaccination for all.

COVID Vaccine Dosage Timeline

If we talk about dosage, each individual has to take two shots of the vaccine. As per the CoWIN portal, the second dose of Covaxin should be taken anytime between 28 and 42 days after the first one and Covishield’s second dose should be taken between 28 days to 56 days. We suggest our readers should also register for the vaccine if they are eligible once the registration opens. Also, follow guidelines set by the government to stop the spread. Stay home, stay safe!
