Corning also stated that the new glass is being tested by a number of manufacturers and it is well equipped to begin the mass production of Anti Microbial glass. The glass will last for the lifetime of the device and will constatntly fight the microbes accumulating on the surface of the device. The following pic represents Antimicrobial corning gorilla glass fighting the microbes on its surface. “Corning’s Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass inhibits the growth of algae, mold, mildew, fungi, and bacteria because of its built-in antimicrobial property, which is intrinsic to the glass and effective for the lifetime of a device,” said James R. Steiner, senior vice president and general manager, Corning Specialty Materials.
“As more people move through shared work spaces, there is an increased need for antimicrobial surfaces,” said Allan Smith, vice president of Product Marketing for Steelcase. “We are excited to introduce Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass on the RoomWizard scheduling device and look forward to working on future products incorporating this innovation”
There have been reports about Corning working on Anti microbial glass for a long time now. The Sapphire glass which is gaining popularity is being seen as a future replacement for Corning gorilla glass by companies like Apple, which provides sapphire glass on touch ID and rear lens. To ensure its survival it is mandatory for corning to swiftly evolve its glass technology and this is a step in the right direction.
