Currently there are six places in Hyderabad which offers public Wi-Fi service. Initially 100MB data is free and then you have to pay for it after exhausting the limit. Additionally there are also physical Vouchers for recharging your account. Currently the Wi-Fi hotspot service is offered at Maitrivanam in Ameerpet, Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar and Koti, District Treasury Office, BSNL office in Abids and in Gachibowli. First 100MB will not be charged but after crossing the limit of 100MB, customers have to recharge their account to continue the service. BSNL prepaid and postpaid customers will be charged on their number.

Customers from other networks are supposed to login in the Wi-Fi portal and recharge their session. Apart from the online recharges, physical vouchers will also be made available soon at various outlets of the city. The plan starts from Rs. 10 for 100MB with one day validity to Rs. 599 for 10GB with 30 days validity. In the coming days, BSNL broadband users will also be able to login with their username and password at these hotspots to get higher speeds. L. Anantharam, Chief General Manager at BSNL mentioned that in the coming two months, approx 925 access points across 121 hotspot zones will be installed in Telangana region. He also added that BSNL will be soon activating Mobile Data Offloading facility which will connect the BSNL user handsets to the BSNL Wi-Fi hotspot as soon as they get into the hotspot zone. This initiative can be very beneficial especially for the BSNL customers. Few months back, Airtel also started such service called “Internet for All” providing public Wi-Fi hotspots at various places in Hyderabad. Seems like every company is trying to catch up with the Digital India Campaign, which is a nice thing to see.
