ROG Phone 3 First Impressions
Design: I’ve Seen it Before!
The ROG Phone 3 inherits the same design from the ROG Phone 2 with similar weight and similar features at the back. The phone got a bit thicker though, last time the ROG Phone 2 was 9.5mm but ROG Phone 3 is 9.9mm. The weight of the phone is similar to before which 240 grams which is a bit higher for a smartphone.
The smartphone comes with the signature triple USB Type C ports on the side and at the bottom. Asus decided to remove the 3.5 mm port from this heavy and thick smartphone, the dongle is included. One thing which is upgraded is the microphone, it got a quad microphone which is good.
Display: More Hertz!
The display on ROG Phone 3 is a 6.59 inches AMOLED panel with FHD resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. This display also comes with a 240Hz touch sampling rate which means it reduces the lag when you interact with the display to get a better response. This display comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection just like before.
Asus ROG Phone 3 comes with a higher refresh rate display than before and a bit brighter display. There wasn’t any need for improvement on the display but its better to see more hertz on the display than before. The display supports HDR10+ and comes with 650 nits brightness at max.
Performance: 3.1Ghz Boost on Phone?
The Aus ROG Phone 3 is the first smartphone ever to sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor. This is just an overclocked Snapdragon 865 and it comes with 5G as well. This processor comes with three clusters of cores with one core clocked up to 3.1Ghz.
The smartphone comes with up to 16GB RAM variant and up to 512 GB storage which is a faster UFS 3.1 storage. The smartphone can obviously run almost every game built for Android smartphones at the highest settings. The two games which I am really waiting to test on this smartphone are; Minecraft (cause why not?) and Nier Reincarnation(unreleased.)
Camera: 8K at 30fps, 4K at 120fps?
The Asus ROG Phone 3 is a gaming phone so no one cares about the camera that much. But Asus did and added a triple camera setup to keep up with the latest multiple camera trend. It comes with a 64MP main sensor with a 13MP wide-angle and a 5MP macro sensor.
The front-facing camera is a 24MP shooter to capture high-resolution selfies with your phone. What extraordinary about this smartphone is that this is the only smartphone that can shoot 8K videos at 30fps and 4K at 120fps. The smartphone only got gyro EIS and no OIS so that’s one feature that Asus should have traded 8K recording.
Battery: 6000 mAh and 30W Charging
Asus kept the battery to be 6000 mAh in ROG Phone 3 but upgraded the charger. Which is great because Asus smartphones were using the same old 18W charging for so long. It supports Power delivery 3.0 so you can fast charge other devices as well. It supports both Quick Charge 3.0 and 4.0 from Qualcomm.
Wrapping up
These were our first impressions of ROG Phone 3. It is one of the best smartphones in terms of performance which you can buy right now. But the price is one thing which is keeping up from recommending it because the price is much higher than the ROG Phone 2. The phone will be available from Flipkart starting from August 6.
