Realme India CEO, Madhav Sheth stated in an interview that the brand is preparing to launch three to four smartphones in India by March 2019. Reportedly, the brand will soon be launching the successor to Realme 1, dubbed as Realme 2 also. Yesterday, an image of the Realme 2 was spotted on the Realme’s website. The leaked image shows that the new phone has a dual-camera setup, a fingerprint scanner, and a notch display, features the first device didn’t have. Let’s talk about, some things that you might find in the upcoming Realme 2, as well as its expected price and release date in India.
MediaTek Helio P60 Hardware
We don’t know much about the hardware of the Realme 2, but this wouldn’t be a surprise if Realme retains the same Helio P60 chipset. However, there are also some speculations that this time it could be a newer Snapdragon chipset. We still assume the Realme 2 will be powered by the same Helio P60 chipset like the Realme 1 and Oppo F9.
Notch Display
The new Realme phone has a notch. However, unlike Oppo’s latest phone F9/F9 Pro, it isn’t a waterdrop notch. Going by the teaser, the Realme 2 looks similar to the Oppo F7 and the back like Realme 1. However, with some differences like notch, it looks much like Oppo A3s which was recently introduced.
Dual Camera
Another notable feature spotted on Realme 2 is a dual-camera setup. This is a remarkable upgrade on paper from the Realme 1 that has a single-camera shooter. It’s not known yet which sensor and a secondary camera will be there but just like other budget phones, it could be a lower-resolution secondary sensor for depth effects.
Fingerprint Sensor
The lack of a fingerprint scanner was a major drawback on the Realme 1. Now, the leaked Realme 2 image shows that the new phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. This could be a welcome feature because the Realme 1’s facial recognition isn’t as secure as fingerprint authentication.
Type C Port
The USB port in Realme is another disappointment as it comes with a micro USB port. We expect Realme 2 will come with a Type C port. However, this is not quite sure shot feature as Oppo itself provides micro USB ports in its flagships.
Fast Charging
With Type-C port, we can also expect that the phone will support fast charging as well. The MediaTek Helio P60, however, doesn’t support any quick charging technology. This is still an assumption that they might do some optimization to provide fast charging in Realme 2.
Stock Android OS
The Realme 1 runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.0. The UI was a little buggy in the first Realme phone and this time we expect that the company might adopt some software changes as well. We assume the OS in the new Realme 2 could be more like stock Android. Realme is a brand created to offer impressive features at an affordable price. The company is focusing on phones between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 segment. Since the Realme 1 price in India starts at Rs. 8,990, we can expect Realme 2 will also be a budget phone.
