If you don’t like the current accent of the Google Maps navigation voice or want to change the language of the voice, then that is possible. Today, I am going to show you two ways to change Google Maps voice language and accent.
Change Google Maps language and voice from the app settings
You can change all the settings related to voice and navigation right inside the Google Maps app. Here’s how: Tap on your account icon at the top-right corner and select “Settings” from it. Now scroll down and tap on “Navigation settings”.
Here tap on the “Voice selection” option and a list of supported languages will come up. Just select your preferred language or accent here.
Once selected, you can tap the “Play test sound” button to test the new voice and you can also increase decrease voice volume from here.
Change Google Maps language and voice from Android settings
You can also change the voice from your phone’s language settings as long as Google Maps is using your phone’s language as navigation voice (that’s the default option). However, this method will also change your phone’s language as well. Make sure you only follow this method if you want to change the language of your phone too. Here’s how to do it: Go to phone “Settings” and tap on “Language & input”. On some phones, you might have to tap the “Additional settings” option first. Here tap on “Languages” and select your preferred language.
That’s it, the whole’s phone language will switch to this new language and Google Maps voice and language will change too.
To conclude
Personally, I think it would have been really cool if Google let us change the gender of voice or at least had different types of voice. Unfortunately, you are limited to specific accents, and voice gender is also different from language to language. Other than that, I am sure the above instructions will be enough to change Google Maps language or accent.
